Independent and Mainstream record labels

Independent Record Label

3 Beat Records-


  • British independent label.
  • Founded in in 1989 as a dance music record shop.
  • In 2009 it changed ownership and became known as 3 Beat Productions. 
  • Its first artists included D:Fuse, New Atlantic, Pianoman and Powerhouse. 
  • Since then they have released songs by artists such as Skepta, Cahill, Agnes and Ian Carey.
  • In 2011 it received its first number 1 hit with "Loca People" by Sak Noel.

Mainstream Record Label

Universal Music Group-

  • This label was founded in 1934 as Decca Records. 
  • Now it serves as a subsidiary to French media conglomerate Vivendi. 
  • Some of their biggest artists include: Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Lil Wayne and Kanye West. 
  • Many of their awards have come from their most successful artists such as Taylor Swift who has won over 20 awards since 2010. 
  • This company owns several other high profile brands such as Capital FM, Abbey Road Studios,  EMI and Def Jam Records. This enhances their reputation worldwide as they own a lot of smaller companies which are influential in many other countries. 
  • This company are responsible for putting out music in 60 different countries making it one of the worlds biggest record labels. 
This is a screenshot of their website as well. Like 3 Beat Records, it features some of their artists such as Lana Del Rey, Demi Lovato and Lady Gaga.
