Music video analysis: Amnesia- Skepta

This music video by Skepta starts with a shot of some pictures on a phone. This is evidently from a night out which instantly fits into the convention of partying in the Hip Hop genre. 


As the song gets into the first verse the scene changes to a shot of the main artist himself. It shows him in a hotel room which according to the lyrics he cant remember. There is also a shot of a pair of women's underwear which fits into the convention of sex that the genre often holds.

As the video progresses we are taken into a nightclub. This is a very typical setting of a hip hop genre and again fits into the convention of partying.


Throughout the video we are shown shots of exotic settings. This is another convention of hip hop videos as these type of settings are closely linked to the concept of wealth.

This video also contains the "male gaze" theory as women are sexualised for the pleasure of male viewers. This is another very typical feature of this genre.
